Forgiveness, restorative justice and reconciliation in sustainable peacebuilding: contemporary debates and future possibilities

Since the mid 1990s, growing attention has been given in scholarly debate and public sphere to forgiveness, restorative justice reconciliation peacebuilding. These concepts have reflected upon highlighted as core components of restoring right relationships sustainable peacebuilding: at first focusing mainly on individuals relations between them later well communities states sphere. Attempts better understand forgiveness relation peacebuilding address also critical issue how safeguard integrate processes into peace processes. After clarifying distinction retributive justice, this article considers findings Daniel Philpott, John Paul Lederach Leonel Narvaez their studies selected, contemporary initiatives. The argues that should be further mainstreamed integrated part any standard response major conflicts wars by national political bodies, religious religious/secular NGOs, international organisations, agencies institutions: order positively sustainably resolve transform conflicts, violence groups, build peace.
